Snapshot Sunday- summer dress for Miss Elizabeth

And I think she is happy :) This style really suits her, its girly but not prissy or hard to play in.
I used Burda 9608- its designed for girls size 7-12. I measured Elizabeth out as a size 11 in most places and a size 9 for length so I cut out the size 11 but made it shorter. The finished dress is quite roomy and she will get this season, and probably next out of it. Its really quite a straight forward pattern- there are only 4 pieces and the only variation to the pattern is the dress length. It DOES have a side zipper though, and quite a bit of bias binding. However, if you think you're ready to give a zip a go then I think this is a pretty good pattern to try. The rest of the dress is super simple and the results are really nice.

I bought the main fabric at spotlight just last week, its a lovely soft pick cotton with floral love hearts and a scattering of butterflies. I made the bias binding myself using a black poldakot quilters cotton (I dont remember where I bought it, but its not hard to find in places like Etsy or spotlight or a good quilting store).

Sumer lovin'

Well now that tin whistle is on holidays, I took the time to sit down with a cup of tea, look through all my patterns and create a wish list of ones I'd like to try and WIP's I'd like to get done. Here is what I have decided I would like to sew over the holidays:

*Finish the summer soiree quilt. Gulp... I just checked my post archive and I started this back in May! Its been dangling like this on the book shelf ever since. I need to add the vertical sashing and border; then sandwhich, quilt and bind it. So I've got most of the quilt still to go really.

* For George I have a series of Ottobre T-shirts I'd like to try.

Blueberry chocco from Otto 4/2009.

Cacao bean from Otto 3/2010

Color-block T-shirt from Otto 2/2005

And London Polo shirt from Otto 3/2009

* Matilda is getting some Ottobre PJ's. They are Becky gown (in knits) and Darla pants (in wovens) from 6/2009.

* Elizabeth picked out some fabric and I picked this dress, its Burda 9608.

She has been admiring this Hilary Duff layered t-shirt for a while. Its McCalls 5422.

And I thought I'd try out this undies pattern for her. Its Dumbo from Otto 6/2010

Boho Hexagon quilt

Yay, I have finished off the boho hexagon quilt. This little quilt is small, 25" by 30", perfect as a pram/bassinet blanket. I picked up all the fabric at spotlight, most of them as Fat Flats, but there were also available by the metre.

The shorts

You know all those boys shorts I've been posting about? Well, I finished them all but forgot to photograph them before I took them over to Red Feathers! DOH! I did keep some for George's summer wardrobe, so I can show you those.

If you are in Perth and you are after some boys shorts that are a bit different- then pop into Red Feathers and a Hula Skirt and pick some up!

Thnapshot Thursday- pram liners

I completely forgot to do a Snapshot Sunday post this week so here is a "thnapshot" of what I have been doing on Thursday instead :)

They are 4 sets of pram liners (8 individual liners) for the Babyjogger City Select pram. This must be a really popular pram because I get quite a few enquiries a week about buying them. If you have stumbled across this post via google and please note that while I do take orders I am taking holidays from Dec 1st 2010 until the new year. However, if you email me I am happy to put you on my waiting list. I cannot tell you how long it will be before you get to the top of the list, but I will work through it chronologically and when your turn comes there is no obligation to proceed if you've changed your mind in the mean time.

Pikkumies

You will be pleased to know that I finished off the boys shorts today. I thought I would take a moment to make something from the Ottobre magazine (winter 6/2010) that arrived during the week. I picked the Pikkumies boxer briefs (design 16) because it was just a quick project to do in between all the other mountains of sewing I have- like a dozen prams liners I have as custom orders!

They are cute enough, but I am not really feeling the love (first time ever for an ottobre I think!). Maybe I am a bit miffed because the size 110cm I made is way too big for George. He is 105cm tall, so strictly speaking the 104cm should fit perfectly, but the next size up (the 110cm I made) should be roomy but still fit. Anyways I ended up giving these to Matilda and they fit perfectly. She is 120cm tall so go figure.
Hmmmm I just had a thought... maybe these are meant to fit like a pair of loose boxers (you know the sort usually made from woven fabrics or satin). I was thinking that being from stretch fabric they were meant to fit snuggly??
