Thats it! Now to enjoy a two week holiday in sunny Broome!

For Coopah

Born 10.5 weeks early. I wish him a quick and uneventful trip through the NICU.

Its been a while since I have made any premie outfits. For those readers who have never seen them before I designed the little tunic pattern a while ago. It comes in 3 sizes; micro-premie, premie and newborn. If you would like a copy of the pattern to sew for any premies in your life please email me :)

Snapshot Sunday- Little hexagon quilt

6am... Feeling the need to make a quilt. I started cutting out before I even had my morning cuppa. The coloured strips are left over bits from a skirt I made from a set of "fat flats". You'll see a photo of the skirt in a few days when I do my monthly tin whistle round up. I am planning on using the black polkadot at the centre and out edge of the hexagons.

Snapshot Sunday- Saturday

This weeks snapshot Sunday all happened yesterday! I had a great sewing day. Knocked the Dapper Dilinger pants on the head.

I made them from dark brown corduroy and used one of Davids old cotton shirts as the contrast lining (oh wait thats right- I already blogged about that here). You cant see any of the lining because its on the inside of the waistband and inside the pocket. I cant give you any feedback on the fit as George is refusing to put them on! (typical). I made a size too large (size 4-5) so he can wear them next winter- but even so they do look VERY large and baggy. As soon as I convince him to try them on I will upload some pics.

Anyways they were pretty easy to make up- the layout of pieces on the fabric caused me a moments confusion because some pattern pieces are intended to be cut crossways to the grain as a design feature ( for example, the pile on the cord runs horizontally on the cuffs, waistband and pocket) and a contrast fabric is used on the inside poket facing and inside waistband lining. None of these features are apparent in the photographs included on the pattern or in the description on the back of the packet and its only when you open the packet and start cutting out that you discover these details. Not that I'm trying to put you off or anything, just that the pants are a little more complex to sew than is apparent from the the promotional pictures. I'd say this pattern would keep an intermediate sewer happily occupied and would be suitalbe for a beginner only if they liked challenges. As an experienced sewer I pretty much chugged through with just general glances at the pattern check seam allowances etc.

I also made George another pair of PJ's. I have one more pair to make him and then that should do for the coming summer.

Elizabeth regularly gets set 'lifestyle' homework, which is the bane of my life. But this weeks was to make a desset for the family. Yum.

Not sure of the last time I put up a pic of me, but I probably had short hair. I've been growing it out for 13 months and its now all at one length in a chin length bob.

Summer PJ's

I am starting to gear gear up for warmer weather and first project off the rank was to test out a new PJ pattern. I chose Burda 9747 because it had both girl and boy styles, short and long versions, and best of all suited kids from size 3 right up to size 15! I made size 3, 7 and 11 for each of my kids, who are aged almost 4yrs, 7.5yrs and 10.5yrs and the sizings were pretty much bang on. Not that it really matters with PJ's if they are a bit too large.

Size 7 pair for Matilda. Elizabeths size 11 pair were from the same fabric. I forgot to photograph them. This is a really light weight cotton fabric I picked up at Spotlight a month or sew ago.

George's Size 3 pair. I am not sure that the Juicy Jungle print is really all that suitable for a boy, owing to the pink elephant. I think its ok, but DH and all the kids thought it was girly! But hey, they're PJ's its not like anyone is going to see him in them! And I wanted to use up the last bit of this fabric, because its been hanging around a while.

The pattern was very simple to put together, in fact, my sister, who has never sewn from a pattern before was able to sew up some PJ's for her kids, only requireing a bit of help with the collar and sleeve placement. All the rest she did by herself.

As an aside... can you see my new size labels sewn into the PJ's? Here are some closeup pics (different garments obviously!). You can probably get these in a lot of places, but if you're interested I got mine here. They sell them in small quantities which is great for home sewists. And as a bonus they also stock a quite good selection of quality knits too, in addition to the usual array of quilters cottons. :)

I may be biased....

But I think little my nephew William is very handsome in his Aunty-made outfit. I blogged about it here when I first made it but only had an opportunity to grab a photo when my sis popped by today. I made the outfit a size 62cm, which I think is roughly suited to a 3 month old. William in this photo is 9 weeks, and it fits him perfectly with a tiny bit of growing room.

Snapshot sunday- Dapper dudes wear dillinger trousers

I thought I might try out this new Patterns by Figgy pattern. I love a flat-fronted pants pattern and the Dapper Dillinger trousers pattern have this, and look easy to sew with the sizing going from 12 months up to size 7. I have cut it out in choc corduroy and I am recycling one of Davids collared shirts into the contrast lining for the waistband and pockets.
