Snapshot sunday

I have developed a sewing routine over the last few months; I spend the weekdays working on tin whistle items and the weekends are free for me to do personal sewing.

Which is why my snap shot sunday photo this week features the Very hungry catarpillar quilt AGAIN. I do have a whole stack of half made tin whistle custom orders hanging about as well, but since the quilt is what I am actually working on today thats what I snapped for this blog entry. I am slowly plugging away at the quilting- probably just over half way through. I am eager to finish it- but dont want to rush the quilting and make it messy.

Snapshot Sunday

I pulled out the Hungry caterpillar quilt straight after I finished the Unisex one. It just needed the last (purple) border added so I put that on. I was still feeling keen so I sandwiched it and started some quilting on it straight away. That means I am on the downhill run with this quilt- its only taken my months and months and months to get this far!!!
I am going to take take my time over the quilting though. The quilt is a gift for my sister so I want to make it extra special. Plus its a good chance to try out some fine FMQ styles.
Here is what the quilt top looks like with the last border on. Have I mentioned how much I love this quilt? I know it sounds very vain to say so, but I think its one of the most unique examples of VHC fabric used in a quilt. I have searched around flickr a lot looking at VHC quilts and I havent seen anything like it. :)

Unisex baby quilt finished- and plans for #2

I think the black and white binding really helped to boy it up. Although apparenly, according to the comments I received it could do with some girlie-fying.

The backing is a lovely polkadot flanellette-also from my stash. In fact the entire quilt was from my stash. Thats the first time I have ever done that! Below is a close up pic showing the FMQ- an all over loose stipple (or close meander?).

Rough sketch and fabric choice for unisex quilt #2. This will be a zig zag quilt. I tried to stick with unisex novelty prints in bright colours.

Unisex quilt in red/grey/yellow

Sorry for going AWOL. I took my daughter on a quick trip to Sydney to see Taylor Swift (cue screaming) and then went onto Melbourne for a spot of shopping. I came home refreshed and ready to hit the sewing room again!

So I started work on a quilt for a friends baby. They dont know the sex so I had to stick with a unisex design. Not sure if I have managed it??? If you were the mum of a new baby boy would you think this was too girly? It has some retro race-track fabric in it (which inspired the colour scheme) as well as some Heather Ross frogs in green.

I put together the quilt top and sandwiched it during the course of one day. The design is very straight forward; I randomly arranged 6.5" squares so into a 7x7 square design. On the second day I set up the machine for quilting and I have started to meander all over it. I did think diagional lines would work, but wanted to work on my FMQ style.
